DEMOLISHED. A large "Arts & Crafts" style building on the High Street, sadly much altered under "Watnification" in the 60's and 70's. The imposing porch at the front no longer allows ingress as the doorway no longer exists. The way in is either from the rear, via the car park, or the front through the former "Jug & Bottle" entrance. The three remaining rooms are vast with high ceilings. Traces of what must have been a magnificent interior do remain though. Much of the bar itself is original, as is part of the bar-back, with the old money drawers. The big surprise is the discovery of two wonderful NBC (Northampton Brewery Company) etched glass sliding windows at one end of the bar where the off-sales counter used to be. An annual "Pipe Smoking Competition" is held every Shrove Tuesday, although to comply with the law, this is now held outside in the garden. Demolished and replaced by three houses. WNS/2021/0209/FUL
